The two main sources in "Emerge" are recordings of a concert band tuning up and a short sample of a chair being dragged across a stage. The first section of the piece deals with manipulations of the tuning material, largely through the amplification or attenuation of specific harmonics. In the second main section, I performed a number of extreme time-stretching and pitch-shifting operations on the chair sample, creating some surprising melodic figures.
